We are very fortunate to have been selected to take part in the Primary Engineering Project which aims to bring engineering into the classroom by using practical maths, science and technology. During January, Mrs Scott and Miss Franklin attended some training. Their first task was to work with engineers to design and manufacture a simple vehicle, and use tools and techniques safely. Their next challenge was to design and manufacture a vehicle, controlled by batteries, a motor and a switch. The vehicle had to travel forwards and backwards and climb a ramp.
The aim of the training is to enable teachers to deliver a whole class, curriculum-mapped engineering project allowing for a variety of outcomes. The project supports practical STEM and gives pupils the opportunity to work with engineers in the classroom. We will now be looking to set up an engineering club to task a small group of children to create something similar and ways to include these skills in our future topics.
